Slowly but Surely

I am a ChiRunner.  But my running has suffered for nearly a year due to allergies and asthma.  I shouldn’t live where I do.  But I must.  So I try to adjust my diet and medication.  I think I have the right combination now.

But I am deconditioned.

So, I’m trying to use gradual progress, as I teach it in my ChiRunning workshops.  I go out 5 mornings/week to run, whether I feel like it or not.  And in these past few weeks I’ve doubled my daily mileage–although it’s still less than half what I used to do.

But that means I’m half-way to my previous level!

Some days, it feels absolutely fabulous.  Other days, I think I’m wasting my time…until I remember how important it is to keep taking one step at a time.  Just put one foot in front of the other.

So even if it doesn’t feel perfect, I know it counts.  It gets me closer to my goal.  It confirms that I’m on my way.  And sometimes that’s the most important thing!
